Central Department of Tribhuwan University (TU), Kritipur announced to start semester system of Master Level Program from this season. It was the long debate between TU and student unions whether to start semester system in master level or not. The university and 13 student unions on Monday signed an agreement to go with the new system to regulate the academic session and improving the teaching and learning system of Nepal. TU decided to open entrance form for the Master’s program for Management, Science, Education and Humanities faculties at the TU Central Campus from Wednesday. According to TU Registrar Chandra Mani Poudel, the new academic session will start from March and the student seats have been limited to 300 per faculty in order to control the admission of students who just join and never attend the class. The three faculties are likely to charge Rs 8000 per semester; however the fee for practical subjects might vary based on their own assessments. TU announced that form will be distributed from Magh 29 to Falgun 15, entrance exam will held on Falgun 17 and result will publish 2 days later.
Form Distribution Date: Magh 29 to Falgun 15
Entrance Exam Date: Falgun 17
Date of Result: Falgun 19
TU vice dean Hira Bahadur Mahrjan told that Kritipur Campus will start Master Level Semester System from Falgun 29 and TU will implement Semester System to all TU affiliated campuses within three years. Semester System will help TU students and lecturers to maintain and increase the quality of education and it will also make lecturers more responsible. Maharjan added that, now only actual students could get the seat in TU. Students unions are against this semester system without any proper plan but TU officials signed an agreement with the representatives 13 student union to implement semester system and to regulate the academic calendar and improving the teaching learning system of the university.
After an agreement student unions have committed to assist the University for Effectiveness of the new structure and help to make it more credible.
TU finally implemented the semester system in master level, Nepal followed traditional education system, allocating ten years to school education, five years to college level students- two years for intermediate level ( 10+2) and three years for bachelor level program, meanwhile two years for master level. So this type of education system does not have practical knowledge, ideas; it has been running on the basis of old and traditional methodology. Its course of content is also traditional and their professors and lectures did not give much attention to their appointed campuses, they are too much busy to give guest lectures, extra classes for highly rated private colleges. Hence such system should be changed as soon as possible and semester system in master level could start the practical studies in Nepal.
